Last weekend I finished a brioche cowl I had been working on for a couple of weeks. It feels so good to finish a knitting project, but it feels great casting something new on too! Since I am a one project at a time knitter picking the next project sometimes take a few hours and some conversation and debate with my reluctant husband. So how do I choose?
Round or Flat: I often choose a project to knit based on the one I just finished. If it was in the round I usually pick something that is knit flat and vice versa. As much as I love knitting in the round sometimes knitting something flat can be a nice change.
Single Color or Multi-Color: As much as I love knitting with multiple colors sometimes it is nice to not deal with the tangled skeins and weaving in tons of ends when the project if finished. Sometimes a one color project is what calls my name.
Single Skein or Multi-Skein: Sometimes I just want to knit something that will not take weeks or months. A quick hat or a one-skein shawl is nice to knit because I get a more immediate sense of gratification for finishing a project.
Crochet or Knit: I learned to crochet long before I learned how to knit. I would consider myself much more of a knitter than a crocheter now, but I do like to work on the occasional crochet project. It is a very different but similar craft and can produce just as beautiful objects.
I take all of these things into consideration when choosing my next project. It definitely is not something I would consider a science. Whatever I choose to knit (or even crochet) I don’t ever regret it.
How do you choose what to create next?
